Mayor Proclaims "Barbergators Chorus Day"
We are proud to announce that, in response to a request by Dave Jacobs, chapter president, Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward Jr. issued a proclamation in observance of the Barbergators' 50th Anniversary show. The proclamation designated April 26, 2024 as "Barbergators Chorus Day" in the City of Gainesville!
The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, the Barbershop Harmony Society was founded on April 11, 1938 for the purpose of preserving and encouraging barbershop quartets to sing [sic] in America. The Barbergators Chorus was chartered in 1973 as the Gainesville Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and has been a part of the Gainesville Community for over 50 years; and
WHEREAS, it is the mission of the Barbershop Harmony Society "to bring people together in harmony and fellowship to enrich lives through singing", and it is the mission of the Barbergators Chorus to bring our community together in harmony through performance, outreach, and education; and
WHEREAS, the Barbergators Chorus will perform its 50th Anniversary Show on April 27, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Barbergators Chorus invites all singers of good character to join them in spreading the joy of singing, educating others about the uniquely American tradition of barbershop harmony, and bringing the community together in harmony.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Harvey L. Ward, Jr., by the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Gainesville, do hereby proclaim April 27, 2024 as
Barbergators Chorus Day
in the City of Gainesville and invite all our neighbors to join me in congratulation the Barbergators Chorus for 50 years of service to our community.
