In the Community: Singing Valentines
Valentine's Day has come and gone. On a day when love was in the air, the Barbergators Chorus spent the day filling the air with the harmonious sounds of barbershop chords.
The chorus spent Friday, Feb 13th and Saturday, Feb 14th delivering messages of love. Quartets and larger ensembles traveled around Gainesville singing songs like "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" and 'I Love You Truly" to unsuspecting loved ones all around town.
One of the most special deliveries included a Singing Valentine to a young lady whose boyfriend is stationed overseas. "He's deployed [overseas]. I thought we weren't going to be able to do anything for Valentine's!", she told the quartet. She posted this video on TikTok.
We also sang for a couple on their 13th Anniversary, at Pomodoro's cafe for a repeat customer, on UF campus to a repeat receiver (we've been hired by two different people to deliver Singing Valentines to her), and we toured Magnolia Rehab and sang to their patients and staff, including in their memory ward.
On of the most special deliveries we had was to our own Mike Roth. Mike was our Valentine's coordinator until he had a stroke only 7 days before the event. A group of us traveled to his rehab center and sang to him and other patients there. ...actually that's not entirely true. Only a week after his stroke, Mike SANG with US! That was special.
We hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day and we hope to be part of the next one.
